THE PLAN FOR TODAY

Introduction

Welcome to the Valencia County Amateur Radio Association’s first annual GET YOUR RADIO MERIT BADGE DAY.  We expect you will fulfill all the requirements for your merit badge today.  While doing it, we hope you have fun and learn a bit about the wonderful world of Amateur Radio.

There are eleven mini classes (this is the first) as shown in the diagram below.  Some of the classes need to be taken in a specific order.  Other classes can be taken in any order.  Each class will be limited to four or five scouts, but they will be repeated as many times as necessary.

Sometimes you will be waiting for other scouts to pass off badge requirements or to make their radio contact.  Use this time to take other classes, find another mentor to whom you can pass off some requirements, or watch the operation of the radio station.  We will try to get you on the radio to talk to some other Ham Radio stations if we can.

If there is anything we can do to help you, please ask.  Ask questions if you do not understand what is being discussed.  And, feel free to ask for one-on-one mentoring to help you over any rough spots.

You will be given a record sheet which lists the merit badge requirements in bite-size pieces.  Keep this sheet and get it signed by the teachers as you pass off each requirement.

When you complete these classes and have all the requirement completion spaces signed on your record sheet, sit down with the merit badge counselor for a review and to get your blue card completed.
